RSC Trial Double-Header Weekend Complete!

Hey everyone! While many were off being hooligans at GP Vegas, we had a double-header RSC Trial weekend right here in Idaho! Big thanks to all who came out this weekend, and to our two stores who hosted trials over the weekend: Goblin Town Games of Pocatello and Goliath Gaming out of Boise.

Goliath Gaming Top 8

We are now approximately one month from the RSC main event at the Gem State Gaming Convention. If you haven't earned your five dollar off voucher for making top eight yet, or if your ambitions are higher and you want to win a trial to earn a bye and a leg up in the main event DON'T WORRY. There are still several opportunities for you to begin your quest for glory, $500, and the title of Idaho's REAL State Champion.

June 17: Goliath Games
June 17: Goblin Town Games (Pocatello)

Now to announce our winners from last weekend. Congratulations to Tyler Price for taking down the event at Goliath Games this weekend. Another shout out to our first winner from East Idaho: Zach Fossan! We look forward to seeing how the main event goes for these trial winners.

Phoenix Fire Games State Championship Trial in the Books!

The second of trials to earn a leg up in the July 22 Real State Championships has completed! Congratulations Tim Zaleski for taking down the event and earning a bye, the awesome playmat you'll see below, $5 off entry into the main event, and some packs to boot. We had a diverse top eight in this event and I encourage you to check out the blog section of phoenixfiregames.com later this week to get a look at all of the decks that made it in to top eight.

Don't worry if you haven't had a chance to make the first two trials. There are still plenty more opportunities to earn all of the swag we mentioned above. The bye is the real prize though. Our last $500 dollar state championship winner was a trial winner and the bye certainly didn't hurt them as they maneuvered through the field.

June 3: Enclave

Before we dive in to the list that won the whole thing, I just want to congratulate long time friend, former limited GP teammate and all around good guy Tim Z on taking down this event.

Here's the U/R list that took Tim to the top of this trial:

4x Censor
2x Negate
9x Island

Sideboard:
2x Negate
2x Dispel

For those staying in town for GP Vegas, be sure to check out our next trial. For those in West Idaho, Goliath Games will be hosting a trial. For those in East Idaho, be sure to check out Goblin Town Games to get one step closer to being the next "Real" Idaho State Champion.

Real State Championship Trials in Full Swing!

The first of trials has completed. Twenty-four players came to Enclave games to battle for a leg up at the $500 first prize main event on July 22 at the Gem State Gaming Convention. Donovan Blayney took down the event with an innovative R/G deck that shows standard is much more than a game of wheel of fortune in the form of Aetherworks Marvel.

The first of these events has completed. Don't worry, though. There are still more opportunities to earn your $5 off voucher into the main event, a bye in one of the day one constructed rounds, and that sweet, sweet playmat.

June 3: Enclave
June 23: Beckmon's (Twin Falls)
June 24: Black Dragon (Twin Falls)

Before we look at the deck that took down the trial, I just want to give a quick shout out and congrats to Donovan Blayney for taking down this event.

Here's the R/G deck that earned Donovan his first win towards bringing down the $500 prize in July:

4x Forest

We hope to see you on Saturday at Phoenix Fire Games in Meridian. Best of luck to all in the remaining trials.

Announcing the 2017 "Real" Idaho State Championships!!

The REAL Idaho State Championship (RSC) is back and it's netting the best in the state a $500 prize for taking home the trophy. We are excited to be announcing some format changes to this event as well as our participating stores which are sure to make this event one to put on your calendar!

While you do not have to participate in the trials to play in states. Trials are the door that leads you to the Championship. Our last Champion, Ryan Courtois, was a trial winner, and the bye he received certainly didn't hurt his chances of bringing home the trophy. All of these events will be standard constructed format and will have varying entry fees dependent on prize support. For taking down a Real Idaho State Championship Trial, you'll take home the awesome playmat above and a round one bye in the RSC. Not only that, all of the trial top-8 players, including the trial winner receive a $5 off voucher for the main event on July 22 (only one voucher can be used per player).

Before we get in to some of the changes to the main event, we want take a moment to thank the following stores for participating in this awesome tournament and hosting trials over the coming months. Also a huge thank to the Gem State Gaming convention for hosting RSC:

You'll be seeing Facebook events for Trials soon. Until then, here is a list of upcoming qualifiers to earn your byes and discount vouchers. Mark your calendar! Be sure to check with your local stores for additional information.

June 3: Enclave
June 10: Phoenix Fire
June 17: Goliath Games
June 17: Goblin Town Games (Pocatello)
June 23: Beckmon's (Twin Falls)
June 24: Black Dragon (Twin Falls)
July 1: ABU Games
July 7 or 8: Hour of Devastation Prerelease
July 15: All About Games
July 21: Last min Trial @ Gem State Gaming convention

July 22: THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Let's take a look at what the tournament structure will look like, so you can see what you'll have to navigate to take this home:

July 22:

Entry to RSC is $40, or $35 with a top-8 trial voucher (Vouchers do not stack: 1 per player). Some may ask why the change in main event entry? We wanted to facilitate a premier style event by turning state championships into a two day ordeal. (plus the event now includes 2x drafts as part of the main event)

Day 1 will consist of X rounds of standard (dependent on attendance) followed by three rounds of Hour of Devastation / Amonkhet draft. After the draft concludes, we'll break to the top 16 who will be invited back for Day 2.

Day 2: The top-16 will start with 3 rounds of Hour of Devastation / Amonkhet draft.  From here the showdown begins as we break to our top 8 where we'll play single elimination standard to determine our state champion. We feel the choice to push for multiple formats in the same tournament will give players a unique opportunity to play in "Pro Tour" feel events, without having to leave the valley and are very excited to be bringing such a great cooperative event with support of so many fantastic stores from around the area.

Thats it for now folks. Be sure to like our facebook page to stay in the loop.

Stay tuned for more.
